# Auto mode and quality levels

Let Auto pick the best engine for each message for free, or choose one yourself and set how long Infinall AI thinks.

## What it is

The picker next to the message box decides who answers. **Auto** picks for you and is free. You can also choose one engine, choose **Model Council**, and turn on **Extended thinking** to make Infinall AI think longer before it answers.

## Who can use it

Everyone. Free accounts can pick any engine until their credits run out. Nothing in the picker is locked by plan. The only plan limit around the picker is the council size, see [Model Council](/docs/chat/model-council).

## Cost

Mixed. **Auto** never takes credits from your balance, but it has a fair use limit. Choosing an engine yourself, with or without Extended thinking, uses credits based on the engine that answered. A reply that fails costs nothing. The app does not show a price per engine. See [what is free](/docs/credits/what-is-free).

## Where to find it

Open **Infinall Chat**. The picker is a small button on the right of the toolbar under the message box. It shows the name of what is selected now.

## Buttons and controls

<!-- shot: chat/auto-and-quality -->

| # | Name in the app | What it does | Plan |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | Auto | First row of the picker. Marked **Free**, with the note "Best model per message". Infinall AI picks the engine for each message and may send a hard question to Model Council. | Both |
| 2 | Model Council | Second row. "Several models, one answer". Opens the council picker next to the box. | Both |
| 3 | Extended thinking | A switch at the bottom of the picker. When on it reads "Thinks longer before answering", when off it reads "Off". Its button name is **Turn on thinking** or **Turn off thinking**. | Both |
| 4 | Low | Thinking depth, shows only when Extended thinking is on. | Both |
| 5 | Medium | Thinking depth. The starting choice. | Both |
| 6 | High | Thinking depth. | Both |
| 7 | Max | Thinking depth. The deepest. | Both |
| | Engine rows | Under a line, the rest of the list. One row per engine. Click one to use only that engine. A **Pro** badge would show on a locked row, but no row is locked today. | Both |

## How to use Auto

1. Open the picker and choose **Auto**.
2. Send your message. The reply shows an **Auto** badge under it.
3. If you see the Auto limit message, wait the time it gives, or pick an engine yourself.

## How to make Infinall AI think longer

1. Open the picker and choose an engine that is not Model Council.
2. Turn on **Extended thinking**.
3. Pick a depth: **Low**, **Medium**, **High** or **Max**. The depth shows as a small tag on the picker.
4. Send your message. You can read the thinking in a block above the reply.

## Options explained

**Auto.** Looks at each message and picks the engine that suits it. For a hard question it can hand the work to Model Council. Auto is the free way to chat.

**One engine.** You choose it, and every message goes to it. Replies use credits.

**Model Council.** Several AI reviewers answer, review each other and one final answer is written. See [Model Council](/docs/chat/model-council).

**Extended thinking depth.**

| Level | Use it for |
| --- | --- |
| Low | Quick answers that need a little more thought. |
| Medium | The default. A good balance. |
| High | Harder questions: plans, analysis. |
| Max | The hardest questions. Slowest and uses the most credits. |

Extended thinking starts off, the depth starts at Medium, and your choices are remembered in this browser. Extended thinking is not used for Model Council answers. If Model Council is selected and you turn Extended thinking on, the picker switches to a single engine for you.

## Limits

- Auto allows 6 messages a minute, 60 an hour and 300 a day.
- Free accounts start with 1,000 credits. After that, only Auto keeps working until you add credits or your Free credits reset.
- If an engine's reading space is unknown, Infinall assumes 128,000 tokens.

## When something goes wrong

| Message in the app | What it means | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| You've reached the Auto limit of (number) messages per (minute, hour or day). Auto is free, so it has a fair-use limit. Try again in about (time), or pick a specific model. | You sent more Auto messages than the fair use limit allows. | Wait the time shown, or choose an engine yourself. |
| You're out of credits. Top up or upgrade to keep chatting. | Your credits are used up, and your choice uses credits. | Switch to **Auto**, or add credits. |
| This is part of Infinall Pro. Upgrade to use it. | A Pro only option was used from a Free account. | Open Settings > Billing to upgrade. |

## Questions

### Is Auto really free?

Yes. It never takes credits. It has a fair use limit of 6 messages a minute, 60 an hour and 300 a day.

### Which one should I pick?

Start with Auto. Pick an engine yourself when you want the same one every time. Turn on Extended thinking for hard questions.

### Are there Standard, Pro and Max levels in chat?

No. Chat has Low, Medium, High and Max for thinking depth. Standard, Pro and Max levels belong to other tools such as Motion.

### Does thinking depth change what I pay?

Deeper thinking uses more work, so a reply can use more credits. Auto stays free at every depth setting.

### Can Free accounts use every engine?

Yes, until their credits run out. See [Free vs Pro](/docs/credits/free-vs-pro).
