## What it is

In Video mode you can save your own voice, check how it sounds, and use it so an avatar speaks your lines in your voice. There is no list of stock voices to choose from in the video composer. The voice in a video comes from the avatar you pick, or from the model.

## Who can use it

Pro only. Video is part of the Pro plan. The backend checks your plan before it saves a voice or speaks one. You must confirm the voice is your own.

## Cost

Uses credits. You see the exact price before you confirm for a video. Saving a voice and pressing **Hear my voice** can also use a small amount of credits when they run AI work. A hold is taken first, so an empty balance is refused before anything starts, and a failed step is not charged.

## Where to find it

Press the plus button in the video composer, then **Create avatar**. In the **Avatar and voice** window, the **Voices** tab holds your saved voices. The **Voice** step of **Create my avatar** records a voice for a new avatar. The **Lip sync** switch is in the composer's button row.

## How to save your voice

1. Press the plus button, then **Create avatar**, then open the **Voices** tab.
2. Press **Choose a recording**. Pick one recording of you speaking naturally, in a quiet room. It can be an audio file or a video to take the voice from.
3. Type a voice name and check the language.
4. Tick the consent box.
5. Press **Save voice**. Wait while it says "Cleaning and cloning your voice...".
6. Press **Hear my voice** on the new voice to check it.

Background noise and hum are cleaned for you.

## How to record a voice with your avatar

1. In **Create my avatar**, finish the **Face** step and press **Next**.
2. In the **Voice** step, press **Record** and read the text on screen in your normal voice. A bar shows your level and a clock shows the time.
3. Watch the hint under the clock. It says "Keep reading" until you reach the minimum, then "Good. A little more makes the voice even better.", then "Great length. You can stop now."
4. Press **Stop**, then listen to the take. Press **Record again** to redo it, or **Upload a recording** to use a file.
5. Press **Next**, then name and save the avatar. See [Avatars](/docs/video/avatars).

## How to make your avatar speak in your voice

1. Pick your avatar in the plus menu. A voice linked to the avatar is picked with it.
2. Pick a model that can speak in your voice. If the **Lip sync** switch does not show, the model you picked either keeps its own voice or already takes your voice as part of the avatar.
3. Turn on **Lip sync**. It reads: "Your avatar speaks in your voice. The lips stay matched." and "The model's background music is replaced by our music track."
4. Press **Create video**.

With **Lip sync** off, the model keeps its own voice, music and sound: "Off: the model's own voice, music and sound are kept." Lip sync starts off for every new avatar you pick.

## Options explained

**Voice from an avatar.** A voice made in **Create my avatar** is linked to that avatar, and picking the avatar brings its voice. A small speaker mark on the avatar card means it has a voice.

**Models that take your voice as part of the avatar.** For some models your face and your voice go in together, so there is no switch and your voice is used.

**Spoken lines.** The words spoken come from the plan's script. Read and change them in [The storyboard](/docs/video/storyboard).

**Saved before cloning.** A voice saved earlier may say "saved before cloning; delete and upload again to use it". Delete it and upload the recording again.

**Voice service status.** If the voice service is down, the window says "Voice cloning is unavailable right now" with the reason. When it is up, it shows how many characters of narration you have left this month.

**Voice in other places.** To clone a voice for voiceovers outside of video, see [Clone your voice](/docs/audio/voice-cloning).

## Limits

- A recorded voice for an avatar needs at least 20 seconds. 40 seconds or more is better.
- The **Voices** tab asks for a recording of at least 10 seconds. 30 seconds or more is best.
- A voice name can be up to 80 characters.

## Questions

### Can I pick a stock voice for my video?

Not in the video composer. The voice comes from the model, or from your avatar's voice when you use lip sync. To make a voiceover with a stock voice, see [Make a voiceover](/docs/audio/make-a-voiceover).

### Is my voice kept private?

It is used to make a private copy of your voice, and deleting the voice removes it. The consent box says the recording is sent to our voice provider for this, and that it is deleted there when you delete the voice.

### Do I need lip sync?

No. It is off by default. Turn it on when you want your avatar to speak in your voice with matching lips.

### Why is the Lip sync switch missing?

It only shows when an avatar is picked and the chosen model can speak in your voice but does not take your voice as part of the avatar. Pick a different model to see it.

### Can I use someone else's voice?

Only with their permission, and you confirm that when you save.
