Landing Page vs Homepage: What's the Difference and Which to Use for Ads

A homepage is the main entry point to your whole site, with navigation to many sections, while a landing page is a standalone page built for one audience and one action, such as signing up or buying, and is usually the destination for a specific ad or campaign.

The difference is focus. A homepage has to serve many visitors: new and returning, customers and job seekers, people who want pricing and people who want support. It carries full navigation and several calls to action. A landing page removes most of that, keeping a message that matches the ad that led there, supporting proof, and a single call to action (see what-is-a-call-to-action), often with limited or no site navigation.

For paid traffic, matching the ad to the page is the main reason to use a landing page. If an ad promises a specific offer or audience benefit, the visitor expects to see it immediately; a general homepage makes them search for it, and many will leave. Dedicated pages also make testing simpler, since you change one page for one campaign (see what-is-conversion-rate-optimization).

A homepage is still the right destination in some cases, such as brand-awareness campaigns or when a site is a single short page. Pages that rank in search can also be landing pages in a loose sense. Practical rule: if one ad has one promise and one action, give it a page that delivers exactly that. For SaaS specifics see what-is-a-landing-page-for-saas.

Why it matters

Infinall AI does not build or host landing pages or homepages, and does not place ads. From a product URL it researches your product and competitors and drafts strategy, ad copy and creative, which land in an Approval Queue for you to edit and approve before export. Its drafts will usually suggest angles that deserve a matching page, but you create that page in your site builder. A good check before approving any ad is to ask where the click lands and whether that page repeats the ad's promise in its first screen.

Frequently asked questions

Should I send ad traffic to my homepage or a landing page?

Usually a landing page, because it can repeat the ad's specific promise and focus on one action. A homepage is reasonable for broad awareness campaigns or very simple sites. If you send ads to the homepage, make sure the relevant offer is visible immediately.

Can a homepage also be a landing page?

Yes, in simple sites the homepage can act as a landing page if it has one clear audience and action. The label depends on purpose, not URL. A page counts as a landing page when it is built for a single goal and matched to the traffic source.
