What Is Dynamic Creative Optimization (DCO)? How It Works and Its Limits

Dynamic creative optimization (DCO) is a method where an ad system automatically assembles ads from separate components, such as headline, image, call to action and offer, and shows the combinations that perform best for different audiences or contexts.

You supply a pool of assets: several headlines, descriptions, images or videos and calls to action. The platform combines them, serves different versions, and shifts delivery toward the combinations that produce better results on your chosen goal. Some systems also swap in data such as product details, location or time, which overlaps with dynamic product ads (see what-is-dynamic-product-ads).

Its benefit is speed of testing: many combinations without building each ad by hand. Its limits are real. Results depend on the quality and variety of the inputs; the system cannot make weak assets good. Reporting on which element drove the result is often limited, and with too little data per combination, the 'winner' may be noise. Because creative is assembled automatically, you also need brand and claim review of every possible combination.

It differs from manual A/B testing (see what-is-ab-testing-for-ads), where you isolate one variable and read the result. DCO trades that clarity for scale. Many teams use it to find promising elements, then test those more deliberately.

Why it matters

DCO needs good inputs, and producing a varied pool of headlines, copy and images is time-consuming. Infinall AI turns a product URL into research, strategy, ad copy and creative, including image ads and carousels, that land in an Approval Queue where you edit and approve each piece before export, which also gives you a chance to review claims before they get combined. Infinall does not run DCO itself, assemble ads in your ad account, buy media, or manage live spend. You would upload the approved assets into the ad platform's dynamic creative features and manage it there.

Frequently asked questions

Is DCO the same as A/B testing?

No. A/B testing isolates a single change so you can tell what caused a difference. DCO mixes many elements at once and lets the system favour combinations, which scales faster but tells you less about why something worked. Many teams use DCO to explore and A/B tests to confirm.

Do I need a lot of traffic for DCO?

Generally yes. Every extra combination splits your impressions, so with small budgets each version may get too little data to judge. Keep the asset pool modest at low spend and expand as volume grows.
