1. Creatify
Creatify is built for ads rather than presenter videos: it makes video ads from any product URL, keeps your logo, colours and fonts in every ad, and lists 1,500+ AI actors plus a tool that turns one photo and one audio clip into a talking video. Its Pro plan adds an Ad Agent and automations. Reviewers on Trustpilot complain about hard cancellation, a refused refund and lip-sync where the voices do not match the faces.
2. Captions
Captions works best on footage you record yourself: it cuts scenes, adds B-roll, styled captions and music, fixes eye contact and removes pauses and filler words. The Max plan adds digital twins and custom AI actors, and it translates and subtitles in 100+ languages. Its Trustpilot rating is low, with reviewers calling the credit system misleading and reporting glitches, deleted projects and billing problems.
3. VEED
VEED is a full browser video editor with AI avatars, lip sync, translation and AI dubbing, so you can fix a video by editing it instead of generating it again. It also has a brand kit, screen and webcam recorders and a teleprompter. Reviewers say auto captions can miss words, uploads can be slow, and on the basic plan auto-generated subtitles cannot be downloaded.
4. Pictory
Pictory turns briefs, scripts, web pages, PowerPoint decks and podcasts into videos, with transcript-based editing and talking presenters, and the Professional plan adds cloned avatars. Its plans are priced in yearly minutes, which makes long training content easier to budget. There is no free plan, only a 14 day trial, and reviewers say its AI image and video generator is weak and the many options feel complex at first.
5. invideo AI
invideo AI gives you a real multitrack timeline you can take over at any frame, a shot-by-shot storyboard before anything is generated, and live collaborative editing, so small changes do not mean starting again. Pricing is per seat and billed annually at the displayed prices. Reviewers report credits running out before a short video was finished and slow refund support.
6. Infinall AI
Infinall AI makes motion videos on both plans, and on Pro it makes videos up to 180 seconds with your own avatar built from your face and voice. You see the price before any video renders, a change ends at a new price instead of an automatic charge, and failed parts are not charged. It is not an avatar specialist: there is no library of ready-made presenters, and avatars and Video mode are Pro only.
How we picked these HeyGen alternatives
We started from the reasons people leave HeyGen in public reviews: credit costs that are hard to track, paying again for every small fix, and support that is hard to reach. Then we looked at video tools in our verified list that make avatar or presenter videos, or that solve the same job another way, such as editing your own footage or turning a script into a video.
For each tool we used only its own pricing page and public review pages, checked in October 2026. Prices change often, so open each pricing link before you buy. We did not include tools we could not verify, so this list has no open source avatar generators.
Quick comparison by need

- You need subtitles, translation or dubbing on videos you already have: VEED.
- You make training or onboarding videos from slides and scripts: Pictory, or stay with HeyGen if you need very long videos.

Pricing notes
HeyGen's pricing page lists Free at $0 a month with 3 watermarked videos a month of up to 1 minute each, Creator at $29 a month or $24 a month paid annually with 600 credits, Business at $149 a month plus $20 per seat a month, and $49 a month as the starting price of the plan called Pro. The pricing page does not show annual prices for Pro or Business, so check HeyGen's pricing page before comparing yearly costs.
Most alternatives also sell credits, and a credit means something different in each tool, so compare what one finished video costs rather than the number of credits. VEED does not publish paid prices on its pricing page and charges per seat. invideo AI's displayed prices are per seat and billed annually.
Infinall AI keeps it simple: one credit is one US cent. Free gives 1,000 credits every month with no card. Pro gives 3,000 credits a month for $10 for the first month, then $30 a month or $299 a year. In India, Pro is Rs 999 for the first month, then Rs 2,899 a month or Rs 33,999 a year. Pro accounts can buy credit packs that never expire.
When to stay with HeyGen
HeyGen is still the stronger choice for some jobs, and its ratings are high: 4.8 on the App Store from 29854 ratings and 4.9 on SaaSworthy from 503 ratings. Stay with it if:
- Presenter-led video is your main output. Its free plan includes one custom avatar and over 500 ready-made presenters, and one recording gives you wide, medium and close-up framings.
- You translate videos. It keeps your voice and lip-syncs speech across 175+ languages and dialects.
- You make long videos. Pro allows videos up to 30 minutes and Business up to 60 minutes, with SCORM export and LMS integrations for training teams.
- You turn PPT or PDF decks into avatar-led videos, slide by slide.
If your problem is cost control rather than features, try a cheaper plan or a tool that shows the price before each render before you switch completely.
Frequently asked questions

Captions and VEED have free plans, and Infinall AI gives 1,000 free credits every month with no card, enough to try motion videos, images and voiceovers. Avatars and Video mode in Infinall AI are Pro only. Pictory has a 14 day free trial instead of a free plan. HeyGen itself has a free plan with 3 watermarked videos a month.
Is there an open source HeyGen alternative?
None of the tools on this page are open source. They are all paid services with free plans or trials. We only list tools whose prices and reviews we could check, so we do not recommend an open source avatar generator here.
Which HeyGen alternative is best as an AI avatar generator?
For avatar video ads, Creatify lists 1,500+ AI actors and makes talking videos from a single photo and audio clip. Captions offers digital twins and custom AI actors on its Max plan. In Infinall AI, a Pro account saves your own face and voice as an avatar from up to 6 photos and a 6 second selfie.
How much does HeyGen cost?
Free is $0 a month, Creator is $29 a month or $24 a month paid annually, Business is $149 a month plus $20 per seat a month, Enterprise is custom, and $49 a month is the starting price of the plan called Pro, according to HeyGen's pricing page in October 2026.
Do I pay again to fix a small mistake in Infinall AI?
A change to a finished video is sent as a message and ends at a new price. Nothing renders until you press Approve and render, and failed parts of a video are not charged.
