Divide revenue by orders to find your average order value (AOV).

Use AOV Calculator

Loading the tool…

AOV measures revenue per order, not profit, and the currency setting does not convert amounts. Free, no sign-up. Runs in your browser; nothing you enter is uploaded.

How to use it

Average order value (AOV) is the revenue each checkout brings in on average. Use revenue and orders from the same dates and store, channel or campaign.

  1. Enter total revenue for one period.
  2. Enter the number of orders in that period.
  3. Compare your AOV with earlier periods worked out the same way.

Formula

AOV = total revenue ÷ number of orders

Example

Home-décor store, India

A month of sales after discounts and refunds, before GST.

Total revenue
₹3,74,400
Number of orders
208

Questions

How do you calculate average order value?

Divide revenue by the number of orders that generated it. Use the same dates and scope for both. For example, ₹3,74,400 from 208 orders gives an AOV of ₹1,800.

Should AOV include tax, shipping and discounts?

Choose a rule and keep it consistent. One workable approach uses revenue after discounts and refunds but before tax and shipping. Match that revenue to the orders you count, and use the same approach when comparing periods.

Is AOV the same as revenue per customer or item price?

No. AOV divides by checkouts. A customer who places three orders counts three times. Revenue per customer divides by people, while average item price divides by units sold.

What happens with zero orders or zero revenue?

With no orders, there is no average to calculate. Enter at least one order. Zero revenue with a positive order count gives an AOV of zero; that is a valid result.

What is a good average order value?

There is no universal benchmark here. Compare your own periods and product mix. Use the break-even CPA calculator with AOV and gross margin to estimate how much you can spend acquiring an order before other costs.

Does a higher AOV improve ROAS?

If order count and ad spend stay the same, higher AOV increases revenue and ROAS. Bundles or add-ons may raise AOV, but check their effects on conversion rate and margin before assuming they improve profit.
