How to use it

Make a YouTube mockup of your in-feed video ad: add a 16:9 thumbnail, type the headline and description, and see where Google's 2-line limits cut your words before the campaign goes live.

  1. Add a 16:9 thumbnail at least 640 px wide; other shapes are cropped to 16:9.
  2. Type the headline, description and channel name; "…" marks where text is cut.
  3. Move key words forward until nothing important is cut, then download the PNG.

How it works

Headline: greedy word wrap at 40 characters per line, 2 lines shown

Description: 35 characters per line, 2 lines shown

If a third line is needed, line 2 ends with "…"

Example

Kaveri Data School, Bengaluru (₹ course)

A 98-character headline hid the ₹25,000 price on line 3. This 50-character rewrite shows on 2 lines with nothing cut.

Headline
Become a data analyst in 6 months, ₹25,000 a month
Description
Total ₹1,50,000. Weekend live batches.
Channel name
Kaveri Data School

Questions

How much text fits in a YouTube in-feed ad?

Google's spec for in-feed video ads gives the headline 2 lines of 40 characters and the description 2 lines of 35. The mockup wraps your words onto those lines and ends the second line with "…" when a third would be needed.

Why is my text cut before it reaches 80 or 70 characters?

Lines break between words, so a word that doesn't fit moves down and leaves space unused. "Weekday evening batches at Koramangala. Your first class is on us." has only 66 characters but needs 3 lines of 35, so its end is cut.

What size should my thumbnail be?

YouTube's thumbnail guidance asks for 16:9 and a width of at least 640 px, and recommends 3840 × 2160. Below 640 px the tool warns you; other shapes are cropped to 16:9 so you can see what is lost.

Is this exactly what viewers will see?

No. YouTube doesn't publish the pixel layout of in-feed ads, so the card's sizes, fonts and spacing are our approximation. The line limits come from Google; the rest is illustrative.
