CPI Calculator
Divide app ad spend by attributed installs to find your CPI (cost per install).
Use CPI Calculator
Currency changes the symbol only; it does not convert amounts. Free, no sign-up. Runs in your browser; nothing you enter is uploaded.
How to use it
See what each app install cost on average, using spend and paid installs from the same campaigns and dates.
- Pick your currency and enter the ad spend.
- Enter the installs credited to that spend, without organic installs.
- Calculate and copy your cost per install.
Formula
CPI = ad spend ÷ attributed installs
For several campaigns, divide total spend by total installs, not the average of their CPIs
Example
Recipe app, India
Two ad sets combined: total spend divided by total installs.
- Ad spend
- ₹2,40,000
- Install count
- 5,760
Questions
Is CPI cost per install or the Consumer Price Index?
Here CPI means cost per install: app advertising spend divided by attributed installs. This calculator does not measure inflation or consumer prices.
Which installs should I count?
Only installs your ad platform or attribution tool credits to the spend entered. Use the same campaigns, dates and attribution window. Adding organic installs makes paid acquisition look cheaper than it was.
How do I combine CPI across campaigns?
Add the spend and installs first, then divide the totals. An ad set spending ₹1,50,000 for 4,000 installs and one spending ₹90,000 for 1,760 installs have a combined CPI of ₹41.67. A simple average of their CPIs weights small and large campaigns equally and gives the wrong total.
Why is there no CPI with zero installs?
Division by zero cannot give a cost per install. No install has been acquired yet. Enter at least one attributed install to calculate CPI; zero spend with positive installs is valid.
What is a good CPI?
There is no benchmark built into this tool. Compare CPI with the contribution you expect from an installed user after other costs. CPI alone does not show retention, paying customers or profit.
Does switching currency convert my amounts?
No. Currency changes the display symbol only. Enter all spend in one currency before combining campaigns. The Indian and US examples are separate illustrations, not exchange-rate conversions.
