Platforms count engagements differently, so compare only rates from the same kind of report (checked 26 Oct 2026). Free, no sign-up. Runs in your browser; nothing you enter is uploaded.

How to use it

Get your engagement rate per impression or per follower from the totals your platform reports. Use impressions to compare posts or ads, and followers to compare accounts or months.

  1. Pick Impressions to compare posts or ads, or Followers to compare accounts.
  2. Enter engagements and impressions or followers from the same report and dates.
  3. Read the rate. Over 100%? Check both numbers came from the same report.

Formula

Engagement rate by impressions = engagements × 100 ÷ impressions

Engagement rate by followers = engagements × 100 ÷ followers

Example

Pune skincare brand, 30 days of posts

A face-serum brand checks a month of posts. Switch to Followers to see the rate per follower.

Questions

Should I divide engagements by impressions or by followers?

Divide by impressions to compare posts or ads, since each was shown a different number of times. Divide by followers to compare accounts of different sizes, or one account month to month. Only compare rates worked out the same way.

What counts as an engagement?

Use the engagement total your platform reports for the same posts and dates. Platforms may count different actions as engagements, and this tool doesn't add them up for you, so compare a rate only with rates taken from the same kind of report.

Why is my engagement rate over 100%?

If your report counts actions rather than people, one viewer can add more than one engagement, and people who don't follow you can engage with a post that gets shared. The tool still shows the rate with a note to check both numbers. If they came from different reports or date ranges, fix that first.

Can I average the engagement rates of several posts?

Add up the engagements and the impressions first, then divide once. Averaging per-post rates gives a small post the same weight as a big one: 10 engagements on 100 impressions (10%) and 0 on 900 (0%) average 5%, but together they make 10 ÷ 1,000 = 1%.

Is there a good engagement rate to aim for?

This tool doesn't grade your result. We have no source for a benchmark we could stand behind, and any rate depends on which actions your report counts. Track your own rate over time, worked out the same way each time.
