Google Ads Unreliable Claims Policy: What It Bans and How to Fix It
The Google Ads unreliable claims policy does not allow inaccurate claims, or claims that present an improbable result as the likely outcome a user can expect, even if that result is possible. It covers miracle cures, unrealistic weight loss, get rich quick and risk-free investment promises, and false claims about elections or climate science. To fix a flagged ad, edit the claim so it is accurate and save it, or appeal if you think Google made an error.

Unreliable claims is one part of the Google Ads Misrepresentation policy, which aims to keep ads clear and honest so people can make informed decisions. The rule is short: an ad must not make inaccurate claims, and it must not lure people with an improbable result shown as the likely outcome. The second half catches many honest advertisers, because a result that really happened to one customer can still break the rule if the ad makes it sound typical. This guide lists what Google names as examples, the extra rules for guarantees and testimonials, a table you can check copy against, and the steps to fix or appeal a disapproved ad. Every rule here comes from Google's Advertising Policies Help pages.
| Area | Not allowed | Google's example |
|---|---|---|
| Any ad | Inaccurate claims, or an improbable result shown as the likely outcome | Applies even if the result is possible |
| Health | Unproven claims of cures for incurable medical ailments | "Miracle cures" for arthritis, diabetes, Alzheimer's disease or cancer; cure-all products |
| Weight loss | Unrealistic weight loss within a specific time frame or with little effort | An ad saying you can eat whatever you want and lose 10 pounds in a month |
| Health crisis | Harmful health claims, or claims about a major health crisis that contradict scientific consensus | Anti-vaccine advocacy; denying conditions such as AIDS or Covid-19 |
| Money and investing | Unrealistic promises of large financial return with minimal risk, effort or investment | Get rich quick schemes; guaranteed returns; investments shown as risk-free |
| Elections and public trust | Demonstrably false claims that could undermine trust in an electoral or democratic process | Voting procedure or election result claims that contradict official records |
| Climate | Claims that contradict scientific consensus on climate change | Listed as its own rule |
| Guarantees | Guaranteeing results without a clear, easy to find refund (money-back) policy | A refund policy is required if you guarantee results |
| Testimonials | Testimonials claiming specific results with no visible disclaimer | The disclaimer must say results are not guaranteed and can vary |
Google Ads Unreliable Claims Policy: What It Bans and How to Fix It
Find the exact claim Google flagged
Open Ads in the Campaigns menu and read the status of the disapproved ad or asset. Hover over the status for a fuller explanation. Then read the headline, descriptions, images and the landing page, because a claim on the destination can count as well as one in the ad.
Turn the promise into a fact you can back up
Replace outcome promises with what the product actually is or does. "Lose 10 pounds in a month, no diet" becomes a plain description of the programme. "Guaranteed returns" becomes a description of the product with its risks. If you cannot prove a claim for a typical customer, cut it.
Add the refund policy and disclaimers the policy asks for
If the ad guarantees a result, link a clear refund (money-back) policy that is easy to find. If a testimonial names a specific result, show a visible disclaimer that there is no guarantee and results can vary. When testimonials imply results are typical, add third-party verification links or noticeable disclaimers.
Check the new copy before you save
Run the rewritten headlines and descriptions through the Ad Policy Word Checker to catch risky phrases, and through the Google Ads Character Counter so each headline stays within 30 characters and each description within 90. Preview the result in the Google Search Ad Preview tool.
Save for re-review, or appeal
Hover over the ad, select Edit, fix it and select Save. The ad is reviewed again automatically. If you believe the ad never broke the policy, appeal the decision from your Google Ads account. If you cannot fix it, remove the ad, which helps prevent a suspension for repeated violations.
What the policy means by an unreliable claim
Google's rule has two parts. The first is simple: no inaccurate claims. The second is the one that trips up careful advertisers: no claims that entice people with an improbable result shown as the likely outcome, even if the result is possible. So a real customer who earned a large sum, or lost a lot of weight fast, is not enough on its own. If the ad suggests most buyers will get the same result, it can still be disapproved.
For health claims, Google says it may defer to local regulatory guidelines, including for testimonial content. That matters if you advertise in more than one country, such as India and the US, because the same testimonial can be treated differently in each market.
Phrases that tend to cause trouble
Google gives examples rather than a word list, so no single word is banned. The patterns to watch, taken from those examples:
- Cure language for conditions with no cure, or one product that cures several diseases.
- A weight target tied to a time frame, or to no effort.
- Guaranteed, certain or risk-free returns on an investment.
- Big income promises with little work or money put in.
- Claims about voting, election results or a public figure that official records contradict.
A safer pattern is to describe the product, who it is for and what it includes, and to state results as ranges with their conditions, backed by your own evidence.

Infinall AI writes ad copy, images and videos from your saved brand. Your Brand Brain holds your logo, colours, voice and the claims saved with your brand, so new copy starts from approved wording instead of fresh promises. You can ask Infinall Chat to rewrite a flagged headline as a plain, checkable statement, and Ad Spy shows the ads a brand is running on Google, which helps you see how others in your category word their claims.
Infinall does not review ads against Google's policies for you and does not run your Google Ads account. The final check is yours, against Google's own policy page. The free plan gives 1,000 credits every month with no card.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Google Ads unreliable claims policy?
It is part of the Misrepresentation policy. It does not allow inaccurate claims, or claims that present an improbable result as the likely outcome a user can expect, even if that result is possible.
Can I use customer testimonials in Google Ads?
Yes, but a testimonial that claims specific results must carry a visible disclaimer that there is no guarantee of specific results and that results can vary.
Can I say my results are guaranteed?
Only if you have a clear and easily accessible refund (money-back) policy. Guaranteed returns on an investment product are listed as not allowed.
How do I fix a disapproved ad for unreliable claims?
Go to Ads in the Campaigns menu, hover over the ad, select Edit, change the claim so it complies, and select Save. The ad is reviewed again automatically. If you think Google made a mistake, appeal from your Google Ads account.
Can Infinall AI check my ads for policy problems?
No. Infinall AI helps you write and rewrite copy from your saved brand, and the free Ad Policy Word Checker flags risky phrases, but Google decides approval.
