How to Remove Background from Image: Free Steps That Work

To remove the background from an image, open it in a tool with a background remover, let it select the main subject, then clean up the edges and save the result. Save as PNG if you need see-through pixels, because JPEG cannot keep transparency. In Infinall AI, select the image, choose Edit, then Remove BG, check the price and choose Apply.

Removing a background means keeping the main subject of a photo, such as a product, a person or a logo, and deleting everything around it. Marketers do it to put a product on a clean colour, drop it into an ad layout or make every item in a catalogue look the same. The job is the same in every tool: pick a good source photo, select the subject, fix the edges, then save in a format that suits where the image is going. The steps below work in any editor, on a phone or a computer. After them you will see how to do it in Infinall AI.

How to Remove Background from Image: Free Steps That Work

  1. Start with a clear photo

Pick the largest, sharpest copy of the photo you have. A subject that stands out from the background in colour and light is far easier to cut out than one that blends in. Avoid photos where the edge of the subject is blurred or cut off by the frame.

  2. Open the background remover

Most image editors, phone photo apps and online design tools now have a one-click option, often called Remove background or Remove BG. Open your photo in the tool you already use and look for it in the edit or adjust menu. If your tool has no such option, a selection tool plus a delete or mask step does the same job by hand.

  3. Let the tool select the subject

Run the automatic option first. It finds the main subject and hides or deletes the rest. Look at the result at full size, not as a small preview, because problems hide at the edges.

  4. Fix the edges by hand

Hair, fur, glass, thin straps and shadows are the usual trouble spots. Use the tool's brush or selection controls to add back parts that were cut off and remove bits of background that were left behind. Zoom in and work slowly around fine detail.

  5. Choose what goes behind the subject

Decide whether you want a see-through background, a plain colour or a new scene. For a marketplace listing a plain white background is common. For a design you will layer over other artwork, keep it see-through.

  6. Save in the right format

Save as PNG when you need transparency, because JPEG has no see-through pixels and fills them with a colour. Use JPEG for a photo on a solid background when a smaller file matters. Keep your original photo too, in case you want to redo the cut-out later.

  7. Resize for where it will be used

Crop and resize the finished image for the place it is going, such as a feed post, a story or a product page. Check the file size if the platform has an upload limit, and compress it if needed.

How to remove a background in Infinall AI

Infinall AI has a Remove BG tool in the edit toolbar of its image workspace, on both the Free and Pro plans.

  1. Select the image on the canvas and choose Edit. The Image editing tools toolbar opens under the image.
  2. Choose Remove BG.
  3. Pick a Quality: Low, Medium or High. It starts on Medium.
  4. Read the price chip next to Apply, then choose Apply. The panel says it removes the background and keeps the main subject.

You can upload your own photo as a JPEG, PNG or WebP of up to 10 MB. Every edit keeps the old version, so if you do not like the result you can go back with Use this version in the Image actions menu. Nothing is charged if the edit fails. On a team, editing needs the Editor role or higher.

Where Infinall is not the best choice

Be aware of two limits. Remove BG can return a plain white background instead of see-through pixels, and very light subjects can lose some detail. If you need a true transparent PNG, for example a logo to place over other artwork, a dedicated editor or a phone photo app may suit you better.

Infinall is most useful when the cut-out is one step in making an ad or a post. You can then use Erase to take an object out, where Infinall rebuilds the background behind it, or Markup to change only a marked area, for example to add a new backdrop. Outlining an object with Auto-select is free; the edit you run on it uses credits, and one edit request can cost at most 100 credits.

Free options and paid ones

You can remove a background for free in many places. Infinall's Free plan gives 1,000 credits every month with no card, and Remove BG is open on Free; one credit is one US cent and you see the exact price before you confirm. Adobe Express has a free plan, but its pricing page lists remove background among the premium editing features that need an upgrade. CapCut offers one-click image background removal and can be tried online for free. Fotor has a free Basic plan with limited free credits and keeps batch background removal for paid plans. Kittl has a Background Remover, but its Free plan is for personal use only, with no commercial rights, which matters for ads.

If you are on a phone, or use Photoshop on a computer, check the maker's own help page for the current steps, because menus change between versions. The 7 steps above apply in every tool.

Common mistakes

  • Saving a cut-out as JPEG and then wondering why the background turned white or black.
  • Judging the result from a small preview and missing a halo of old background around the edges.
  • Starting from a small, blurry copy, which gives rough edges no tool can fix.
  • Removing a shadow that made the product look grounded. A soft shadow often looks more natural on a plain background.
  • Using a cut-out from a free plan in a paid ad without checking the tool's licence.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove a background from an image for free?

Use a tool with a free background remover. In Infinall AI, Remove BG is on the Free plan, which gives 1,000 credits every month with no card. Check other tools first: Adobe Express lists remove background as a premium feature.

Why is my result white and not see-through?

Either the file was saved as JPEG, which cannot hold transparency, or the tool filled the background with white. Infinall's Remove BG can return a plain white background, so use a PNG-capable editor if you need transparency.

How much does Remove BG cost in Infinall AI?

It uses credits, and the exact price shows in a chip next to Apply before you confirm. One edit request can cost at most 100 credits, and nothing is charged if the edit fails.

Can I undo a background removal?

Yes. Infinall keeps every version of an image. Choose Use this version from the Image actions menu to go back to the original.
