How to Edit an Image with AI: Prompts, Steps and Checks
To edit an image with AI, open the original in an image editor, describe the specific change you want and state what should stay unchanged. Review the result against the original before downloading it; in Infinall AI, select an imported canvas image and use the Edit tool or chat panel, checking the credit price before confirming.

Start with the picture you want to change, not a request for a completely new picture. Write down the desired change and the details you need to preserve, such as a product label, a person's face or the background. The workflow below begins with tool-neutral preparation and review advice, then shows the documented controls in Infinall AI. Use a selected-area edit when the change belongs in a particular spot. If you only need a crop or colour adjustment, use those direct controls instead of asking AI to redraw the scene.
| Your task | Control | Cost and review point |
|---|---|---|
| Describe a changed scene | Edit or the chat panel | Uses credits, with the price shown before confirmation. Compare the new version with the original. |
| Change a particular area | Markup or Auto-select, then describe the edit | Auto-select is free. Markup edits use credits and show a price before confirmation. |
| Remove an object or background | Erase or Remove BG | Uses credits. Review edges and any areas around the removed subject. |
| Crop or fit the image | Resize with Crop or Fit | Free, no credits. Check that important details remain in frame. |
| Adjust the colours | Grade | Free, no credits. Review the product and skin colours before keeping the result. |
| Go back to an older result | Use this version | Free, no credits. Going back does not request another AI edit. |
How to Edit an Image with AI: Prompts, Steps and Checks
Choose the original and define the job
Keep a separate copy of the original and decide what a successful edit should look like. Write the change in concrete terms, such as replacing the wall behind a product rather than making the whole photograph better. Note the parts that must remain recognisable so you can check them afterwards.
Choose a whole-image or selected-area approach
For a change to the overall scene, write a prompt that describes the new result and the details to preserve. For a local change, use an editor's selection controls where available to identify the object or area. If the job is only cropping or adjusting colours, prefer direct editing controls so you are not requesting a new version unnecessarily.
Write a prompt with a change and a constraint
Try: 'Replace the background behind the bottle with a pale green wall. Keep the bottle shape, label wording and camera angle unchanged.' Treat this as an instruction to test, not a promise that every detail will be preserved. Avoid vague requests such as 'make it professional', which give you little to compare against when reviewing the result.
Set a review checklist before running the edit
List the details you will inspect: the requested change, text, logos, faces, object edges and shadows. Compare these against the original rather than judging only whether the result looks attractive. If an important detail changes, revise the instruction or narrow the selected area before trying again.
In Infinall AI, import and select the picture
Import your picture onto the canvas of a Studio project, then select that image for editing. Importing puts an editable item on the canvas, while attaching a reference only gives AI a picture to guide its work. Both actions are free, and each uploaded picture can be up to 10 MB.
Describe the change and check the price
Use the Edit tool to describe the change or write numbered steps, or send the change for the selected image in the chat panel. A price chip appears next to Apply in Edit and next to your prompt in chat; check it before confirming. An edit holds up to 8 steps, and a request can cost at most 100 credits. Charges apply per image actually made, and failed edits are not charged.
Compare versions and download the chosen image
Infinall AI makes a new version and keeps the old picture, so compare the edited image with the one it came from using your review checklist. Use this version lets you return to an older picture without using credits. Download the version you want to keep; downloading and exporting finished work are free on both Free and Pro.
Prompt examples you can adapt
Use a simple pattern: change this subject or area, make it look like this, and keep these details unchanged. For a local edit, try: 'Change the red cushion to dark blue. Keep the sofa, wall and floor unchanged.' For a product scene, try: 'Replace the background with a plain cream surface. Keep the product shape and printed label unchanged.' These are suggested instructions, not guaranteed outcomes.
Review the first result before adding more changes. If the new background is right but the label is wrong, do not approve the image just because the scene looks better. Narrow the area or make the preservation instruction clearer. In Infinall AI, Markup lets you mark an area, while Auto-select can outline an object for free before you describe the change.
When another approach is better
Do not use a generative edit for every image task. When you only need a different crop or a colour adjustment, Infinall AI's Resize with Crop or Fit and Grade are free alternatives to credit-using edits. If your existing editor already gives you precise control over the area you need to change, staying there may be the simpler choice.
For work where exact label wording, a face or a logo matters, make those details part of your acceptance check. A prompt requesting preservation is not evidence that the result preserved them. Keep the original available and reject a version that changes something essential. Infinall AI's version history helps you compare and return to an earlier image, but the final accuracy check is still yours.
Free vs Pro, costs and team access
You do not need Pro to edit an image by describing a change in Infinall AI. Both plans support it, although image engines marked Pro are unavailable on Free. In a team workspace, editing and importing require the Editor role or higher.
Free gives 1,000 credits every month with no card. Pro gives 3,000 credits a month and costs $10 for the first month, then $30 a month or $299 a year. In India, Pro costs Rs 999 for the first month, then Rs 2,899 a month or Rs 33,999 a year. One credit is one US cent.
Do not treat the monthly credit allowance as a fixed number of edits. The price depends on the work requested, and describing a change uses credits even on the Free plan. Read the price chip before confirming. Importing, attaching references, returning to an older version and downloading are free, so you can prepare and review without spending credits on those actions.
Frequently asked questions
How do I edit an image with an AI prompt?
Name the part to change, describe the desired result and state what should stay unchanged. For example, ask for a different background while keeping the product and label unchanged, then compare the output with the original. In Infinall AI, select the canvas image and use Edit or the chat panel.
Can I edit an image with AI for free?
Infinall AI's Free plan includes 1,000 credits every month, with no card required. Editing by describing uses those credits, so it is not an unlimited free service. Importing pictures, Crop, Fit, Grade, returning to older versions and downloading do not use credits.
What is the difference between importing and attaching a reference?
Importing puts the picture on the canvas as an item you can edit. Attaching a reference lets AI look at the picture to guide a new image or edit, but does not put it on the canvas. Infinall AI allows up to 6 reference pictures per request, with each picture up to 10 MB.
What if the AI edit changes something I wanted to keep?
Compare the result with the original and reject the changed detail. Try a narrower selected area or a more specific instruction. Infinall AI keeps the previous picture when it makes an edit, and Use this version lets you return to an older picture for free.
