How to Upscale an Image: Steps for Sharper, Bigger Pictures

To upscale an image, open the largest copy you have in an editor with an upscale or image size option, pick a scale such as 2x or 4x, then check the result at full size and save it as a new file. In Infinall AI, select the image, choose Edit, then Enhance, pick 2x upscale or 4x upscale and apply. It is free on every plan, with the long side capped at 4096 pixels.

Upscaling means making a picture bigger, with more pixels across and down, while keeping it as sharp as possible. Marketers need it when a logo, a product photo or an image saved from a chat is too small for an ad, a banner or a print. Every tool does the same basic job: it takes the pixels you have and works out the new ones in between. Some tools only stretch and smooth, others also sharpen and remove noise. The steps below work in any editor, including desktop photo editors and online design tools. After them you will see how to upscale an image in Infinall AI for free.

How to Upscale an Image: Steps for Sharper, Bigger Pictures

  1. Find the largest copy of the image

Start from the original file, not a screenshot or a copy that was sent through a messaging app, because those are often shrunk and compressed. Every upscale works from the pixels you give it, so a better start gives a better result. If you made the image yourself, export it again at the biggest size your tool allows.

  2. Decide how big it needs to be

Look up the size the place you are posting to expects, such as the width of a banner or a print area, and work out the scale you need. Doubling the width and height (2x) is a safe step for most pictures. Going four times bigger (4x) works best on small images like icons, logos and low resolution photos.

  3. Open the upscale or image size option

Desktop photo editors usually have an image size or resize dialog where you type a new width and height. Online design tools often call it upscale or enhance. Menu names change between versions, so if you use a tool such as Photoshop or Canva, check its own help page for where the option sits today.

  4. Choose the method

A classic resize without AI fills the new pixels by blending the ones around them, which keeps the picture true but can look soft. Some tools add sharpening and noise reduction, which gives cleaner edges. AI upscalers can add detail that was never in the photo, which may look good but can also change text, faces or product details, so check them closely.

  5. Keep the shape the same

Lock the aspect ratio so the width and height grow together and the picture does not stretch. If you need a different shape, such as square for a feed or tall for a story, upscale first and crop or fit to the new shape afterwards.

  6. Check the result at full size

Zoom in to 100 percent and look at edges, small text, logos and skin. Upscaling cannot bring back detail that was lost, so very blurry sources stay soft. If halos or jagged edges appear, try a smaller scale or a different method.

  7. Save as a new file

Keep the original and save the bigger version under a new name. Use PNG for logos, graphics and anything with flat colour or text, and JPEG or WebP for photos where a smaller file matters. Compress the file afterwards if the place you upload to has a file size limit.

How to upscale an image in Infinall AI

Infinall AI has an Enhance tool in the image editor of Studio. It sharpens a picture, reduces noise and can double or quadruple its size. It works on the pixels you already have, so it does not invent new content, and it runs without calling the paid AI, which makes it a way to upscale an image without AI adding things.

  1. Select the image on the canvas and choose Edit.
  2. In the editing toolbar, choose Enhance. The panel is called Restore & enhance and shows a green Free pill.
  3. Under Output, choose Sharpen (same size, cleaner detail), 2x upscale or 4x upscale.
  4. Check the line that shows the old size and the new size, for example 1024 x 1024 to 2048 x 2048.
  5. Choose the apply button. The bigger picture appears on the canvas next to the old one, so you can compare them.

To save it, open the Image actions menu on the new image and choose Download. Downloading never uses credits.

Limits to know

Enhance never makes the long side larger than 4096 pixels. If you ask for 4x on a picture that is already large, it is upscaled less than you asked and the panel shows the note Capped at 4096 px on the long side.

New images made in Infinall AI come out at fixed sizes for each aspect ratio, and there is no 2K or 4K choice when you make one. Make the image first, then use Enhance to go bigger.

If you need a new shape rather than a bigger picture, use Resize in the same toolbar. Crop and Fit are free and accept a width and height from 64 to 4096 pixels. AI Extend, also inside Resize, adds new area around the picture with AI and uses credits, so it is not an upscale. Pictures you upload can be up to 10 MB each.

Common mistakes

  • Upscaling a screenshot or a compressed copy when the original exists. Find the source file first.
  • Upscaling more than you need. A bigger file is slower to load and does not look sharper on a small screen.
  • Stretching the picture by changing only the width or only the height.
  • Trusting an AI upscaler with small text or a logo without checking it. Detail that is added can be wrong.
  • Saving over the original. Keep both so you can try again with a different setting.

Free vs Pro in Infinall AI

Enhance is the same on both plans: Sharpen, 2x upscale and 4x upscale, with the same size cap, and it uses no credits. Free gives 1,000 credits every month with no card, which you spend on making and editing images, motion videos and copy. Pro costs $10 for the first month, then $30 a month or $299 a year, gives 3,000 credits a month and adds Pro-only engines and modes such as Video.

Frequently asked questions

Can I upscale an image for free?

Yes. Most image editors can resize a picture for free. In Infinall AI, Enhance with 2x upscale or 4x upscale is free on both the Free and Pro plans and uses no credits.

How do I upscale an image without AI?

Use a classic resize in any image editor, which fills the new pixels by blending the ones around them. Infinall AI's Enhance also does not invent new content: it sharpens and removes noise from the pixels you already have.

How do I upscale an image in Photoshop or Canva?

Both have their own resize or upscale options, and the menu names can change between versions, so check the vendor's help page for the current steps. The checks in this guide, such as keeping the aspect ratio and reviewing at full size, apply in any tool.

Will upscaling make a blurry photo sharp?

Only partly. Sharpening and noise reduction make edges cleaner, but no upscale can bring back detail that was never captured. AI tools that add detail may look sharper but can change what is in the picture.

How big can Infinall AI make an image?

Enhance can double or quadruple the width and height, but the long side is capped at 4096 pixels.
