GST on Google Ads in India: Rates, GSTIN and Billing
GST on Google Ads in India is generally 18%: Google's India tax guidance lists 9% CGST plus 9% SGST for a Haryana bill-to address, and 18% IGST for other addresses, with a separate SEZ exception. Check the Google entity supplying your ads and your billing details before applying a rate, because Google India Private Limited and Google Asia Pacific have different GSTIN guidance.

| Billing situation | Listed GST | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Haryana bill-to address | CGST 9% plus SGST 9% | Supplier and bill-to state on the invoice |
| Other bill-to addresses | IGST 18% | Supplier, address and GSTIN details |
| SEZ advertiser | GST 0% | Whether your account qualifies for the stated exception |
Start with the company supplying your ads
Before calculating GST, look at the supplier named on your Google Ads invoice. Google says purchases from Google India Private Limited, also called GIPL, attract GST. For this supplier, a GSTIN is mandatory for business accounts and optional for individual accounts. Entering a GSTIN is not a general promise that Google will stop charging GST.
Google gives different guidance for services supplied by Google Asia Pacific. Its India tax guidance says those purchases attract 18% GST unless you provide a valid GSTIN. Do not apply that statement to a GIPL invoice. If Google does not charge tax, ask your accountant whether any separate tax obligation applies to your business; this page does not determine reverse charge or input tax credit eligibility.
Which GST rate should you expect?
Google lists central GST at 9%, state GST at 9%, and integrated GST at 18%. Its India guidance says advertisers with a bill-to address in Haryana are charged CGST plus SGST, while other advertisers are charged IGST. It separately lists GST for SEZ advertisers at 0%.
Use the table as a guide to checking an invoice, not as permission to choose your own tax category. Check your supplier, bill-to state and registration details against the actual billing document. If you believe an SEZ exception applies, ask your accountant and Google billing support to confirm how your account should be treated before assuming the exception applies to a payment.
Calculate tax without confusing spend and payment
Use the taxable amount on the invoice as the starting point. For a tax-exclusive amount, GST equals the taxable amount multiplied by the applicable GST rate. The tax-inclusive total is that taxable amount plus GST. If the amount you have already includes tax, do not add GST again. Ask your accountant to confirm the taxable base when the document includes adjustments or charges you do not understand.
Keep a worksheet with separate entries for the taxable advertising amount, each GST component, and the invoice total. For a Haryana invoice, check the CGST and SGST lines separately; for an IGST invoice, check the integrated tax line. This is a calculation method, not a forecast of what your campaign will cost. A calculator cannot decide your supplier, tax status or eligibility for a credit.
Check GSTIN and bill-to details before spending
Compare the company name, address and GSTIN on your billing document with the details your accountant expects you to use. Google says the GSTIN should correspond to the state shown in the invoice's bill-to address. If those states do not match, Google says the invoice is treated as issued to an unregistered customer and reported that way in its GST returns.
For an agency-managed account, Google says the address and GST details should correspond to the company and state paying the invoices and claiming GST. Agree who is paying before a campaign starts, rather than assuming the agency's details or the client's details are always correct. Keep the agreed billing information with the campaign handover so another teammate does not substitute a different entity later.
Do not rely on fixing an old GSTIN later
Google states that it cannot modify or re-issue previously finalized invoices for tax ID changes. That makes a pre-campaign billing check more useful than waiting for a discrepancy at month end. If an invoice is already wrong, preserve the document, explain the problem to Google billing support and ask your accountant how to handle it. Do not promise a client that adding a GSTIN now will rewrite past invoices.
When you search for GST on Google Ads in India TaxGuru articles or other explanations, use them to prepare questions rather than to override your invoice. Confirm the answer against Google's India billing guidance and advice specific to your business. Rules about credits, returns and reverse charge need an accountant's review; a general advertising guide is not a filing instruction.
Keep Infinall AI billing separate from Google Ads tax
Your Infinall AI subscription is not your Google Ads media budget. Infinall's ad-account documentation says you choose the campaign budget and the advertising platform charges spend to your ad account. Keep platform invoices separate from the software subscription when you review campaign costs. Do not use an Infinall checkout total to work out the tax on a Google Ads invoice.
Infinall AI Free gives 1,000 credits every month with no card. In India, Pro checkout prices are Rs 999 for the first month, then Rs 2,899 a month or Rs 33,999 a year, with 3,000 credits a month. Billing shows the final charge before you pay. Those are software plan prices, not Google advertising rates or a statement about the GST treatment of your subscription. Google's billing pages are better for platform invoice questions, and your accountant is better for tax eligibility questions.
Frequently asked questions
Does adding a GSTIN remove GST on Google Ads?
Not as a blanket rule. Google says GIPL purchases attract GST, while its Google Asia Pacific guidance says a valid GSTIN avoids the stated GST charge. Check the supplier on your invoice and ask your accountant about any separate obligation.
Can I claim input tax credit on Google Ads GST?
Ask your accountant to review your registration, invoice and business use before claiming a credit. Google's instructions about collecting a GSTIN do not by themselves establish your eligibility. Keep the invoice and billing details available for that review.
Is a GST on Google Ads in India calculator enough?
A calculator can apply a rate to a taxable amount, but it cannot confirm which tax treatment applies to your account. Establish the supplier, applicable rate and whether the amount includes tax first, then reconcile the result with the invoice.
Can Google change the GSTIN on a finalized invoice?
Google says it cannot modify or re-issue previously finalized invoices for tax ID changes. Check your registration and bill-to state before the next campaign, and ask billing support and your accountant how to handle an existing error.
