What Is Voice Cloning? How AI Copies a Voice, and How to Use It

Voice cloning is when an AI model learns how a real person sounds from short recordings of their speech, then reads any new script in that voice. You give it clear samples, it builds a new voice, and you type text to make audio. Use it only for your own voice or a voice you have clear permission to use.

What voice cloning means

A normal text-to-speech tool reads your script in a stock voice that belongs to nobody in particular. Voice cloning makes a new voice that sounds like one specific person, usually you. Once the clone exists, it works like any other voice in a voice list: you paste a script, pick the cloned voice and get an audio file.

The point is not to fool anyone. For marketers, founders and creators it is a way to keep a consistent, recognisable voice across ads, product demos and social videos without booking a recording session every time the script changes.

How voice cloning technology works

The process has three parts, and it is the same idea in most tools:

  • Samples: you upload or record a few clips of one person speaking. The AI studies the tone, pitch, accent and rhythm of that voice.
  • The voice: the tool saves what it learned as a new voice with a name, so you can pick it later.
  • Speech: you type a script and the AI reads it in the cloned voice. Change one word and you make a new take, with no re-recording.

Quality depends mostly on the samples. Clean audio of one speaker, recorded close to the microphone in a quiet room, gives a far better clone than a noisy phone call or a clip with music under it.

What people use it for

Common, legitimate uses include:

  • Ad voiceovers in the founder's own voice, updated whenever the offer or price changes.
  • Product demos and tutorials where the script is edited many times.
  • Short social videos and reels that need a voiceover every week.
  • Fixing a single wrong word in a recording without booking the speaker again.

If you just need a clear, professional voice and do not care whose it is, a stock voice is simpler. Cloning is worth it when the voice itself is part of the brand.

Consent, safety and the risks

The same technology can be misused to copy someone's voice without permission, which is why voice cloning comes up in cyber security discussions and scam warnings. Good practice is simple:

  • Only clone your own voice, or a voice whose owner has agreed in writing.
  • Do not use a cloned voice to impersonate a real person or to make people believe someone said something they did not say.
  • Tell your team and clients when an ad uses a cloned voice.
  • Treat a voice like any other personal data and delete clones you no longer use.

Responsible tools ask you to confirm that you have the right to use the voice before they make a clone.

How to get a good clone: practical steps

These steps work in any voice cloning tool:

  1. Write a short practice text with a mix of sentences, questions and numbers.
  2. Record in a quiet room, with the microphone at the same distance every time.
  3. Speak naturally at your normal pace. Do not read in a flat voice, because the clone copies how you sound.
  4. Remove clips with background music, other voices or loud noise.
  5. Make the clone, then test it on a real script before you use it in an ad.
  6. If something sounds off, add cleaner samples and make it again.

Voice cloning in Infinall AI

In Infinall AI, Clone voice is a mode in Audio and is a Pro feature. On Free it shows a Pro badge and opens an upgrade prompt; accounts on a trial get the Pro audio features. You give the voice a name of up to 128 characters, add a sample, confirm you have the right to use that voice, and the clone appears in your voice list, ready for voiceovers.

A clone needs 1 to 10 recordings with at least 10 seconds of clear speech in total, and each file can be up to 50 MB. You can also record in the app: up to 3 takes, each up to 120 seconds. 30 seconds or more sounds better than the minimum. Your account has a limited number of voice slots, so delete a clone you no longer need to free one.

Cloning a voice is free. Speaking with the cloned voice uses credits like any premium voice, charged on the characters spoken, and each take card shows what it cost. A script can be up to 5000 characters, roughly five minutes of speech. Pro costs $10 for the first month, then $30 a month or $299 a year (India: Rs 999 first month, then Rs 2,899 a month or Rs 33,999 a year), with 3,000 credits a month. Generated audio can be used commercially by the account that made it.

Worked example: a founder's 30 second ad

A founder wants every product ad to sound like her, but she changes the offer every week.

  1. She records 3 takes in Clone voice, reading a mixed practice text for about a minute in a quiet room.
  2. She names the voice after herself, confirms the voice is hers, and the clone appears in her voice list.
  3. She uses Write the script to turn a short brief into a 30 second ad script, then edits it.
  4. She picks her cloned voice in Audio mode and makes the voiceover. The take lands on her canvas, where she can play and download it.
  5. Next week the offer changes. She edits two lines and makes a new take. No new recording, no studio.

If she wanted a free option instead, she could use one of the 54 stock voices across 29 languages that Free accounts get, but none of them would sound like her.

Frequently asked questions

What is voice cloning AI?

It is an AI model that learns a specific person's voice from recordings and then reads new text in that voice. The result is a reusable voice you can pick for any script.

Is voice cloning legal?

Cloning your own voice, or a voice whose owner has agreed, is the normal use. Copying someone's voice without permission, or using a clone to impersonate them, can break laws and platform rules. Get written consent and check the rules where you publish.

How much audio do I need to clone a voice?

It depends on the tool. In Infinall AI a clone needs at least 10 seconds of clear speech in total across 1 to 10 recordings, and 30 seconds or more sounds better.

Can I clone my voice for free in Infinall AI?

Clone voice is a Pro feature, so it is not on the Free plan, but trial accounts get the Pro audio features. On Pro, making the clone is free and speaking with it uses credits.

Can I use a cloned voice in ads?

Yes, if the voice is yours or you have permission. In Infinall AI, generated audio can be used commercially by the account that made it.
