Regional Language Ads in India: How to Run Them on Google
Regional language ads in India are ads written in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi or another Indian language instead of only English. Google Ads lists Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu as languages you can target, and it disapproves ads written in a language it does not support. Write the ad and its landing page in the same language as the people you want to reach.

What counts as a regional language ad
A regional language ad is any ad whose words, voice or on-screen text are in a language other than English, chosen because the people you want to reach read or speak it more comfortably. In India that usually means Hindi or a state language such as Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali or Punjabi.
The idea is the same in every channel: newspapers, TV, radio, outdoor and digital. This page covers digital ads, mainly on Google, because that is where the platform rules are published and you can check them yourself. For regional language ads in Indian newspapers, the publication sets the formats, sizes and rates, so ask each paper's ad desk for its current rate card.
Which Indian languages Google Ads supports
Google Ads Help publishes a list of the languages you can pick for ads language targeting. The table above shows the Indian languages on that list. Hindi is also available as a language for the Google Ads interface itself; the other Indian languages are available for targeting but not for the interface.
Two rules matter before you write anything:
- Ads created in a language that is not supported for ads language targeting are disapproved.
- Some ad formats have different language restrictions, so check that your language is allowed for each format you plan to use, not just for the account.
If you want to run an ad in a language that is not on the list, you will need a supported language for the ad itself.
How Google matches your ad to a language
Language targeting is changing. Google Ads Help says that starting in September 2026, the way language targeting works changes for Search campaigns and the Search Network part of Performance Max campaigns, and the campaign-level language setting for Search campaigns is being removed. In practice this means the language of your ad text and landing page does more of the work: Google checks whether a person understands the language of the ad and the page.
On the Display Network, Google Ads may look at the language of the pages or apps a person is visiting or has recently visited to decide which ads to show. Multilingual users may also see an ad in a different language from the one they searched in, if Google is confident they understand it. For India, where many people search in English and read Hindi or a state language, this is why you should not assume that a Hindi search means only Hindi ads will show, or the other way round.
What to do about it: keep each ad group in one language, and send it to a landing page in that same language. A Tamil ad that lands on an English page sends a mixed signal and a confusing experience.
How to plan a regional language campaign, step by step
- Pick the languages from your customers, not from a map. Look at where your orders, enquiries and WhatsApp messages come from, and what language people write to you in.
- Check that each language is supported for the ad format you want, using the Google Ads Help list.
- Write the copy natively in each language rather than translating English word for word. Get a native speaker to read every line before it goes live.
- Respect the length limits. Responsive search ad headlines support up to 30 characters and descriptions up to 90 characters. Words in some Indian scripts can run longer than the English equivalent, so count after you write. The free Google Ads character counter helps here.
- Build a landing page in the same language, or at least a translated section the ad links straight to.
- Set one campaign or ad group per language so you can see which language performs, and give each a budget you are comfortable testing.
- Compare results by language after enough clicks to judge, then move budget to what works.
What regional language ads cost
There is no separate price list for ads in Hindi or Tamil. On Google and Meta the cost is set by an auction: you choose a daily or total budget and a bidding approach, and the platform charges your ad account as people see or click your ads. The cost per click or per thousand views depends on how many other advertisers want the same people at the same time, so it differs by city, category, season and language.
To estimate your own numbers, start from the budget you can afford and work backwards with the free CPC calculator, CPM calculator and ad budget calculator. Then run a small test in each language and replace the guesses with your real results. GST and payment rules for ad spend in India depend on how and where you are billed, so check with your accountant and the ad platform's billing page.
Making regional language creative with Infinall AI
Infinall AI makes the ad material; it does not buy media for you. Its Audio mode turns a script into a voiceover. Free accounts can use 54 voices across 29 languages, and three Hindi voices support emotions such as calm or excited delivery. Translate & speak takes one script and returns a spoken take in each language you tick, up to 10 languages at once, with each language charged separately. Check the voice list in the app for the specific Indian languages you need before you plan around them.
You can also write ad copy and scripts in Infinall Chat or with the script writer, then place them on images and motion videos made from your saved brand. Pro adds video dubbing for files up to 10 minutes. Finished ads can go to the Social Hub, where the New ad composer runs them on Meta, Google, LinkedIn or TikTok through your own connected ad account; the ad platform charges that account for the spend.
The Free plan gives 1,000 credits every month with no card. Pro costs Rs 999 for the first month, then Rs 2,899 a month or Rs 33,999 a year at the rupee checkout, and gives 3,000 credits a month.
Where other approaches are better
For print and TV, work directly with the newspaper, channel or a media agency: Infinall AI does not book newspaper or broadcast space. For copy that has to sound fully local, such as slang, wordplay or legal disclaimers, a native-speaking copywriter will catch things an AI draft can miss. Use AI to get drafts and voice takes quickly, and a human to approve the final words.
