How to Boost an Instagram Post: 7 Steps, Budget and Goal
To boost an Instagram post, pick a published post that already gets likes or saves, choose one goal, set who should see it, then set a daily budget and how many days it runs. Check the total spend before you confirm, because the ad platform charges that budget to your ad account.

Boosting turns a post you already published into a paid ad, so more people than your followers see it. You do not make a new picture or write new text: the post runs as it is. That makes boosting the quickest way to start paid ads on Instagram, and also the easiest way to waste money if you boost the wrong post or skip the settings. This guide covers the decisions that matter with any tool, from choosing the post to reading the results. Then it shows how to boost a post from the Social Hub calendar in Infinall AI, where the spend box shows the total before anything starts.

How to Boost an Instagram Post: 7 Steps, Budget and Goal
Pick a post that already works
Boost a post that is doing well without paid help: more likes, saves, shares or comments than your usual posts. Paid reach makes a good post reach more people, but it rarely rescues a weak one. An older post can be a fine choice if it is still accurate, the offer is still live and the link still works.
Check the post before you pay for it
Read the caption again as if you were a stranger. Make sure the first line says what the post is about, the price or offer is current, and nothing in the image or text breaks ad rules, such as health claims or promises of guaranteed returns. A boosted post is reviewed as an ad, so fix problems before you start.
Choose one goal
Decide what you want people to do: visit your profile, go to your website, send you a message or simply see the post. One clear goal makes the boost easier to judge later. If you want sales from a website, make sure the link in your bio or post goes straight to the right page.
Set who should see it
Pick the places, ages and interests that match your real customers. A local shop should keep the area tight, while an online store can go wider. If you sell in India and the US, think about running separate boosts so you can compare results and set a budget that fits each market.
Set a daily budget and a run time
Start with a small daily budget and a short run, then extend what works. Multiply the daily budget by the number of days so you know the most you can spend. Run long enough for the platform to show the post to enough people to judge it, rather than stopping after a few hours.
Confirm the total and start
Before you confirm, read the total spend and the payment account it will be charged to. The budget is billed by the ad platform to your ad account, not by the app you boost from. Once it starts, leave it alone for a while: changing settings often makes results harder to read.
Read the results and decide
When the boost ends, compare it with your goal: profile visits, website clicks or messages, and the cost of each. Keep the posts and audiences that worked, drop the rest, and boost the next good post with what you learned.
How to boost an Instagram post in Infinall AI
In Infinall AI, boosting starts from the Calendar in the Social Hub. Open a post that is already published and choose Boost post. The post is used as it is, so you do not make a new picture or write new text. Choose a goal, a daily budget of at least 1 in your ad account currency, and a run time between 1 and 90 days. The spend box shows the total before you start.
You can also choose Save paused, which is free, and start the boost later. While a boost is live, Infinall uses 2 credits a month, the same as any live ad, and the ad platform charges your budget to your ad account. Infinall does not buy media for you. Paused, ended and deleted boosts cost no credits, and one click makes one boost, so pressing the button twice does not start two.
What you need first
Boosting needs a connected ad account, the account where the platform keeps your ads and bills your ad spend, such as Meta Ads. Connecting accounts is a Pro feature. A Free account that has not connected one sees "No ad account connected." with a Connect one link. Pro includes 2 free connections, shared by social profiles and ad accounts, and each connection after that costs 300 credits a month.
On a team, workspace viewers cannot boost. The app tells them "Your workspace role does not permit this action (spend)."
If you also want posts to publish to Instagram by themselves, connect your Instagram profile as a social profile. Planning, scheduling and publishing from the Calendar never use credits, and without a connected profile you still get a reminder at the time you set.
Common mistakes
- Boosting a post that did not do well on its own and hoping money will fix it.
- Picking several goals at once, so you cannot tell whether the boost worked.
- Leaving the audience too broad for a local business, or too narrow for a new product.
- Forgetting to multiply the daily budget by the number of days.
- Boosting a post with an old price, an ended offer or a broken link.
- Changing the settings every few hours instead of letting the boost run.
- Using a caption that breaks ad rules, such as clickbait lines like "You won't believe...", all caps or a row of exclamation marks.
Free vs Pro for boosting
On the Free plan you get 1,000 credits every month with no card. You can plan and schedule posts on the Calendar and save ad drafts, but you cannot connect a new ad account, so you cannot start a boost. Pro costs $10 for the first month, then $30 a month or $299 a year (in India, Rs 999 for the first month, then Rs 2,899 a month or Rs 33,999 a year), and gives 3,000 credits a month. One credit is one US cent.
If you only boost now and then and already manage your ads in the Instagram app, boosting there is simpler. Infinall AI helps most when you want to make the post, schedule it and boost it from one calendar.
Frequently asked questions
How do you boost an old Instagram post?
The same way as a new one: open the published post and boost it. Before you do, check that the price, offer and link are still current. In Infinall AI, any post you already published can be boosted from the Calendar.
How much does it cost to boost an Instagram post?
You set the budget. The ad platform charges your daily budget times the number of days to your ad account. In Infinall AI the daily budget starts at 1 in your ad account currency, and Infinall uses 2 credits a month while the boost is live.
What is the difference between boosting and promoting an Instagram post?
People use the words for the same thing: paying to show a published post to more people. A full ad built from scratch gives you more control over the picture, text and placements, while a boost uses the post as it is.
How do you post an Instagram post before boosting it?
Publish it first, because only published posts can be boosted. In Infinall AI you write the caption, add images or video, pick the platforms and choose a date on the Calendar. Instagram captions can be up to 2200 characters, and a post with a connected account publishes by itself.
Can I boost a post on the Free plan?
Not a new one. Boosting needs a connected ad account, and connecting accounts is Pro only. Ad accounts you connected earlier keep working if your plan changes.
