LinkedIn Video Ad Specs: Sizes, File Limits and Text Lengths

LinkedIn video ads must be MP4 files between 75 KB and 500 MB, running 3 seconds to 30 minutes, with AAC or MPEG4 sound. LinkedIn accepts 4 ratios: 4:5, 9:16, 16:9 and 1:1, at up to 1080 x 1350, 1080 x 1920, 1920 x 1080 and 1920 x 1920 pixels. Keep the headline to 70 characters (200 maximum) and the introductory text to 150 characters (600 maximum).

A LinkedIn video ad is a video that plays in the LinkedIn feed as Sponsored Content, with introductory text above it, a headline below it and a call to action button. LinkedIn rejects or crops a video that misses its technical rules, so it pays to check the file before you upload it to Campaign Manager. This guide lists every spec on LinkedIn's own video ad specs page: file type, file size, length, sound, pixel sizes for each ratio, the thumbnail, the text lengths and the call to action options. After the table you get a short checklist for making a file that passes on the first upload.

LinkedIn Video Ad Specs: Sizes, File Limits and Text Lengths

  1. Pick one ratio for the placement

Choose 4:5, 9:16, 16:9 or 1:1 before you edit. Vertical 4:5 and square 1:1 take up more of the feed on a phone than 16:9, while 16:9 suits a video already made for a website or YouTube. Build the edit at that ratio from the start, because cropping a finished 16:9 video to 4:5 often cuts off faces and text.

  2. Set the canvas size inside the limits

    Export at the largest size LinkedIn lists for your ratio: 1080 x 1350 for 4:5, 1080 x 1920 for 9:16, 1920 x 1080 for 16:9 or 1920 x 1920 for 1:1. Never go below the minimums, such as 360 x 450 for 4:5 or 640 x 360 for 16:9. LinkedIn allows a 5% aspect ratio tolerance, but an exact ratio avoids surprises.

  3. Export an MP4 with AAC sound at 30 frames per second

Save the file as MP4 with AAC or MPEG4 audio and a sound rate under 64 KHz. Use 30 frames per second, which LinkedIn recommends. Then check the file size: it must be at least 75 KB and no more than 500 MB, and the video must run at least 3 seconds and no longer than 30 minutes.

  4. Add captions and a thumbnail

Captions are optional, but many people watch the feed with the sound off, so burned-in or uploaded captions help the message land. Make a custom thumbnail as a JPG or PNG under 2 MB, at the same ratio and resolution as the video, and put the main promise of the ad on it.

  5. Write the text to the recommended lengths

Keep the introductory text near 150 characters and the headline near 70 characters, even though LinkedIn allows 600 and 200. Pick a call to action that matches the landing page, such as Learn More, Sign Up, Register or Request Demo, and paste a full landing page URL that starts with http:// or https://.

  6. Use the free tools or Infinall AI to speed it up

The free LinkedIn Ad Character Counter checks your introductory text and headline against the recommended lengths before you paste them in. If you need the video itself, Infinall AI Motion makes short animated videos of 10 to 60 seconds from a prompt and your saved brand, on Free and Pro, and exports them as an MP4 at no credit cost. On Pro, the video composer makes videos of 1 to 180 seconds that start at 30 frames per second. The AI Editor adds timed captions to a clip, and making the subtitles is free in credits.

LinkedIn video ad size: which ratio to choose

LinkedIn lists 4 ratios for video ads, and each has its own pixel range. Square 1:1 goes up to 1920 x 1920, landscape 16:9 up to 1920 x 1080, vertical 4:5 up to 1080 x 1350 and vertical 9:16 up to 1080 x 1920. Overall, width and height must each be between 360 and 1920 pixels, and the ratio must sit between 9:16 and 16:9.

If you are making one file for LinkedIn only, a vertical 4:5 or a square 1:1 version is a sensible default because it fills more of a phone screen than 16:9. If you already have a landscape video from your website or a webinar, 16:9 is accepted as it is, and you save editing time. LinkedIn does not say one ratio performs better, so treat this as a layout choice and test two ratios if you have the budget.

LinkedIn video ad file size and length limits

The file must be an MP4 between 75 KB and 500 MB. Length runs from 3 seconds to 30 minutes. Those limits are wide, so most problems come from the other rules: sound in the wrong format, a ratio outside the allowed range, or a frame size below the minimum.

A 30 minute ceiling does not mean a long ad is a good idea. Shorter cuts are easier to watch in a feed, and the same footage can be cut into a short version for the ad and a longer one for your company page. If a long export goes over 500 MB, lower the bitrate in your editor rather than the frame size, and check the result before uploading.

LinkedIn video ad thumbnail size

The thumbnail is optional but LinkedIn recommends one. It must be a JPG or PNG no larger than 2 MB, and its ratio and resolution should match the video. So a 1080 x 1350 vertical video needs a 1080 x 1350 thumbnail, and a 1920 x 1080 landscape video needs a 1920 x 1080 one. A still frame from the video works, but a frame with a clear face, the product or a short line of text usually tells a scrolling reader more.

Where Infinall AI fits, and where it does not

Infinall AI can make the video, the captions and the ad copy from your saved brand, and from the Social Hub you can build a LinkedIn ad in the New ad composer and run it once a LinkedIn ad account is connected. Connecting accounts is a Pro feature, and a live ad uses 2 credits a month. Infinall does not buy media for you: LinkedIn charges the ad budget to your own ad account. If you already have a finished video from an editor or agency, you may only need to check it against the table above, and Campaign Manager alone is enough to run it.
