Pinterest Ad Specs: Image, Video, Copy and Carousel Limits
Pinterest recommends a 2:3 aspect ratio, or 1000 x 1500 pixels, for standard image ads, uploaded as PNG or JPEG. Video ads take .MP4, .MOV or .M4V files up to 2GB, from 4 seconds to 15 minutes long, with 6 to 15 seconds recommended. Titles take up to 100 characters, of which the first 40 may show in feeds, and descriptions take up to 800.

Pinterest lists its ad specs per format: standard image ads, video ads, carousels, collections and several newer formats. Most advertisers start with a standard image or video ad, so this guide covers those in full, plus the copy limits that apply to almost every format and what Pinterest says about carousels. Every value below comes from Pinterest's own help pages. Where a format has rules we have not listed, check Pinterest's ad specs page before you build the creative.
| Spec | Pinterest guidance | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Image aspect ratio | 2:3 recommended, or 1000 x 1500 pixels | Build image ads on a 1000 x 1500 canvas. |
| Taller images | Pins with an aspect ratio greater than 2:3 might get cut off in feeds | Do not go taller than 2:3 if the bottom of the image matters. |
| Image file type | PNG or JPEG; PNG with sRGB is advised | Export PNG in sRGB. Uploads are converted to 8-bit RGB JPEGs and custom color profiles are not supported. |
| Image file size | Desktop 20 MB, in-app 32 MB | Keep files under 20 MB so they upload from either route. |
| Video file type | .MP4, .MOV or .M4V | Export MP4 unless your workflow needs MOV. |
| Video encoding | H.264 or H.265 | Check the codec in your export settings. |
| Video file size | Up to 2GB | Long, high bitrate files can pass this, so check before upload. |
| Video length | Minimum 4 seconds, maximum 15 minutes; 6 to 15 seconds recommended | Plan a short cut for the ad even if a long version exists. |
| Max. width video | Cannot exceed the height of a 1:1 aspect ratio | Use square or wider for max. width video ads. |
| Title | Up to 100 characters; the first 40 may show in feeds (30 for double byte languages) | Put the key words in the first 40 characters. |
| Description | Up to 800 characters; not shown on ads viewed up close | Write it for relevance, not as the main message. |
| Carousel (sales objective) | 2 to 10 images and video per carousel | Plan enough cards for the products you want to show. |
| Pin safe zones | Top 270 px, left 65 px, right 195 px, bottom 790 px | Keep text and logos inside these margins on a Pin. |
Pinterest Ad Specs: Image, Video, Copy and Carousel Limits
Pick the ad format first
Decide between a standard image ad, a video ad or a carousel before you design anything. Each format has its own rules on Pinterest's ad specs page, and video ads, like most formats, need a Pinterest business account. Write down the ratio, file type and copy limits for the format you chose.
Set the canvas to 2:3
For a standard image ad, start on a 1000 x 1500 pixel canvas. Pinterest says Pins taller than 2:3 might get cut off in feeds, so a taller design risks losing its bottom. If you are making a max. width video ad instead, keep the shape no taller than 1:1.
Keep text inside the safe zones
Pinterest's Pin specs list safe zones of 270 px at the top, 65 px on the left, 195 px on the right and 790 px at the bottom. Place headlines, prices and logos inside that area so they stay visible on any device. If your Pin has a plain white or black background, expect Pinterest to add a faint layer over it: black at 4% opacity on white in light mode, white at 10% on black in dark mode.
Write the title and description
Write a title of up to 100 characters with the key words in the first 40. Then write a description of up to 800 characters. People do not see the description on an ad viewed up close, but Pinterest uses it to decide relevance for delivery, so describe the product plainly.
Export and check the file
Export images as PNG in sRGB and keep them under 20 MB. Export video as .MP4, .MOV or .M4V with H.264 or H.265 encoding, between 4 seconds and 15 minutes long, and under 2GB. Reopen the exported file and check its size and shape rather than trusting the export preset.
Use a free tool or Infinall AI
If you already have an image, the free Pinterest Pin Resizer crops or fits it to 1000 x 1500 and downloads a JPG or PNG, and the free Pinterest Pin Character Counter checks your title, description and text against the 100, 800 and 250 limits. If you need the creative itself, Infinall AI can make images from a prompt using your saved brand, and its AI Editor has a Pinterest 2:3 preset at 1000 x 1500 pixels for video.
Pinterest ad specs for video
Pinterest has two video ad widths. Standard width video ads are the same size as a regular Pin. Max. width video ads span the feed, and Pinterest says they cannot exceed the height of a 1:1 aspect ratio, so they are square or wider.
For video ads Pinterest accepts .MP4, .MOV or .M4V files with H.264 or H.265 encoding, up to 2GB. A video ad can run from 4 seconds to 15 minutes, but Pinterest recommends 6 to 15 seconds. The same title and description limits apply as for image ads. Pinterest does not add the faint background layer to videos, only to image Pins.
If you make video in Infinall AI, note that Motion offers Auto, 16:9, 1:1, 9:16 and 4:5 shapes, with no 2:3 option. A 1:1 Motion video suits a max. width video ad. For a 2:3 video, start a project in the AI Editor with its Pinterest preset.
Pinterest ad specs for copy
Every common Pinterest ad format uses the same two text fields. The title takes up to 100 characters. Depending on the device, only the first 40 may show in people's feeds, and for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic and other double byte languages only the first 30 show. If you leave the title empty and there is no rich Pin title, nothing shows in its place.
The description takes up to 800 characters. It does not appear in the home feed or search feed, and it does not appear for ads viewed up close. It still matters: Pinterest says it uses descriptions to decide relevance for delivery and recommends entering one.
A practical order: write the title so the first 40 characters make sense alone, then write a plain description that names the product, who it is for and what it does. Infinall Chat can draft both from your saved brand, and the post composer in Infinall's Social Hub lists an 800 character caption limit for Pinterest.
Pinterest ad specs for carousel
Carousel ads feature multiple images for people to swipe through. For the sales objective, Pinterest's ad specs page lists 2 to 10 images and video per carousel, pulled from catalog creative, and the title and description limits are the same as other formats: 100 and 800 characters.
Pinterest's ad specs page does not give a separate card count for carousels outside the sales objective in the part we reviewed, so check the current page in Ads Manager or Pinterest's help before you plan the cards. For each card you design yourself, the 2:3 image guidance is the safe starting point.
Where a resizer is enough, and where it is not
A resizer is the right tool when the picture already works and only the shape is wrong. The free Pinterest Pin Resizer outputs 1000 x 1500, and the Pinterest Pin Mockup lets you preview the image and title before you upload. Neither makes new artwork.
When the picture itself is missing, Infinall AI can make it. Free accounts get 1,000 credits every month with no card, and Pro costs $10 for the first month, then $30 a month or $299 a year. Infinall does not buy media for you: you still create and pay for the Pinterest campaign in Pinterest Ads Manager.
