  2. 2. CapCut

CapCut is a photo and video editor for web, desktop and mobile with ready-made Reels and TikTok templates. It adds automatic captions in multiple languages and text to speech, and the mobile app has keyframe animation, chroma key and stabilization. The mobile app exports up to 4K at 60fps.

4.6 on the App Store from 1,125,279 ratings (checked 2026-10-29)

  3. 3. Infinall AI (AI Editor)

The AI Editor runs in your browser: you pick a size on a welcome screen, then cut clips on a timeline and add text, captions, transitions, colour looks and music. Captions, Auto Cut Silence, Auto Reframe, Background Removal and export are free and use no credits; the AI chat that makes edits from your description uses credits. Finished videos can go to the Social Hub calendar for planning and scheduling.

Watch out: The AI Editor needs a computer with a screen at least 1024 pixels wide. It does not open on a phone or tablet.

  4. 4. Captions

Captions is an AI video editor that turns uploaded footage into a finished video: pick a style and it cuts scenes and overlays B-roll. It adds stylized auto-captions, removes pauses and filler words, fixes eye contact and lets you direct changes with simple prompts in a chat-based editor. The free plan includes basic trimming, transitions and some media library assets.

Watch out: A reviewer found the credit system frustrating and misleading.

1.7 on Trustpilot from 91 ratings (archived copy, checked 2026-10-29)

  5. 5. Kapwing

Kapwing is a browser editor with a drag-and-drop timeline for trimming, combining clips and adding overlays. You can edit a video by editing its transcript, remove silences automatically and turn a long video into social-ready clips. The free plan exports up to 4 minutes at 720p with a watermark.

Watch out: A reviewer said a project could only be stored for 2 days, which was a problem for regular use.

  6. 6. VEED

VEED is a browser-based AI video platform for editing, subtitling and branding short videos for social media. It edits, converts, subtitles and transcribes video in the browser, and has templates for video ads on every platform. It also has a screen recorder, webcam recorder and teleprompter.

Watch out: An App Store reviewer said auto captions can miss words even when the speech in the clip is clear.

4.8 on the App Store for VEED Lite from 19,975 ratings (checked 2026-10-29)

  7. 7. Descript

Descript gives you a transcript of every recording, and you edit the video by editing the text. It cuts filler words and retakes in a click, cleans up audio, adds captions and reformats a video for YouTube, TikTok or LinkedIn. The timeline is still there if you need it.

How to choose

Start with the device you will edit on. If you only have a phone, CapCut and Captions have full mobile apps. If you have a laptop or desktop, every tool here works, including browser editors such as Clipchamp, Kapwing, VEED and the Infinall AI Editor, which needs a screen at least 1024 pixels wide.

Next, match the editor to your footage. Talking-head videos benefit most from AI that removes pauses and filler words: Captions, Descript, Clipchamp and Kapwing all do this. Short clips with music and text suit a template editor such as CapCut. If you have no footage at all, Infinall AI can make a motion video from a prompt and you can then cut it with others in the AI Editor.

Then check what the free plan lets you publish. Clipchamp exports free up to 1080p with no watermark. Kapwing exports free at 720p with a watermark. In Infinall AI, editing, captions and export use no credits; only the AI chat and AI generation do.

Finally, run one small test in two editors: the same 30 second clip, with captions and one cut. Note how long it takes and whether you can fix a wrong caption word quickly. Keep the one you finish faster, and only then look at paid plans.

What a beginner needs from an AI video editor

Most beginners need the same four things, and AI helps with each:

  • Captions. Typing subtitles by hand is slow, so automatic captions save a lot of time. Clipchamp, CapCut, Captions, Kapwing, VEED, Descript and the Infinall AI Editor all make them. In the Infinall AI Editor, Make subtitles runs on your computer, is free and does not upload your audio; you can pick one of six animated looks and edit every word.
  • Clean cuts. Silence and filler-word removal turns a rambling recording into a tight clip. Look for Auto Cut Silence in Infinall, silence removal in Clipchamp, Smart Cut in Kapwing or filler-word cutting in Descript.
  • Easy fixes. Undo matters more than features when you are learning. The Infinall AI Editor keeps up to 1000 undo steps for an open project and autosaves about 2 seconds after your last change.
  • A clear export. You should know the size and quality before you post. Infinall export runs in your browser, uses no credits and has presets, including size targets such as WhatsApp 16 MB.

Editing for social media, YouTube and Instagram Reels

Pick the shape before you edit, not after. Instagram recommends 9:16 for Reels covers and crops the middle of a 9:16 image for the cover, and the feed shows the middle 1:1 square. Our free Instagram Reels resizer lets you preview that crop before you post.

In the Infinall AI Editor you choose the video size on the welcome screen, and Auto Reframe helps turn a landscape clip into a vertical one. CapCut has ready-made Reels and TikTok templates and exports up to 4K at 60fps in its mobile app. Descript reformats one video for YouTube, TikTok or LinkedIn. For YouTube tutorials, Clipchamp and VEED record your screen and webcam.

When the video is ready, Infinall AI lets you add it to a post on the Social Hub calendar and schedule it. Publishing by itself needs a connected account, which is a Pro feature; on Free you still schedule the post and get a reminder.

Frequently asked questions

What is the easiest AI video editor for a complete beginner?

Microsoft Clipchamp is built for people with no editing experience and exports free up to 1080p with no watermark. On a phone, CapCut is easier because of its templates. If you film yourself talking, Captions or Descript do much of the editing for you.

Is there a free AI video editor with no watermark?

Yes. Clipchamp's free plan exports with no watermarks up to 1080p. The Infinall AI Editor's export is free, uses no credits and has no plan limit. Kapwing's free plan adds a watermark.

Can I use the Infinall AI Editor on my phone?

No. The AI Editor needs a laptop or desktop with a screen at least 1024 pixels wide. A laptop with a touch screen and a trackpad or mouse is fine. On a phone, CapCut or Captions are better choices.

Which AI video editor is best for YouTube?

For tutorials, Clipchamp and VEED record your screen and webcam. For talking videos, Descript lets you edit by editing the transcript and also writes a YouTube description. For Shorts, CapCut's vertical templates and 4K export are a strong fit.

Does editing in Infinall AI use credits?

Opening the editor, the timeline, captions, colour tools, effects and export never use credits. The AI chat, AI pictures and AI voiceovers use credits, and one chat request stops after 100 credits. One credit is one US cent.
