How to Edit a Video with AI: Cuts, Captions and Export

To edit a video with AI, import your footage into an editor, specify the cuts or changes you want, then review the timeline before exporting. Infinall AI offers editing chat alongside free browser tools for silence removal, highlights, reframing and captions, while manual timeline editing and export use no credits.

Start with footage and a clear editing goal, not a request to make everything better. Decide what the viewer should understand, which moments prove your point and what can be removed without changing the meaning. Use AI for a defined task, then watch the result yourself. For a spoken demo, that might mean cutting empty pauses and adding captions. For a music-led montage, it might mean choosing highlights and matching cuts to the beat. The workflow below starts with those decisions, then shows the matching controls in Infinall AI.

How to Edit a Video with AI: Cuts, Captions and Export

  1. Decide what the finished video should say

Write a short brief naming the audience, the main message and the moments that must remain. Separate editing existing footage from generating new footage: trimming a demonstration is a different job from creating a scene that was never recorded. Keep an untouched copy of your original media so you can compare the result.

  2. Review the footage and build a rough sequence

Watch the clips before asking AI to change them, and note the opening, useful demonstrations and closing message. Arrange the material in the order a viewer needs to understand it, then remove obvious duplicate takes. Keep a pause if it gives an important statement room to land; silence is not always a mistake.

  3. Open the editor and import your media

In Infinall AI, open AI Editor on a laptop or desktop, choose a video size on the welcome screen and add your footage to the Media panel. Drag the files onto the timeline, where you can move, trim and cut clips manually without credits. Each imported file can be up to 500 MB, and the editor needs a screen at least 1024 pixels wide.

  4. Request a specific AI edit or use a free tool

Use the AI Editor chat to describe an edit, naming what should change and what should stay. Alternatively, use Auto Cut Silence for a clip with sound, Local Highlights to find highlights, or Beat-Synced Auto-Edit for cuts to the beat. Those browser tools are free in credits, but editing chat uses credits and shows no price before you send.

  5. Check framing, speech and captions

Review the subject's position after reframing, and listen for words or breaths that a cut should not remove. In Infinall AI, Auto Reframe and Background Removal only show for video clips. Use Make subtitles on a clip with speech, keep Let AI pick the look off to avoid its paid styling step, then correct the caption text and timing.

  6. Finish the audio and visual details

Listen through the edit with your attention on speech rather than the picture, then watch again for abrupt changes in framing or colour. Infinall AI provides volume, fades, noise removal and ducking to lower music under speech, alongside colour grading, effects and transitions. These editing tools use no credits, so adjust them manually rather than sending another paid chat request for every small change.

  7. Export and review the actual file

Save your project and use Export after the timeline contains media. Infinall AI exports in your browser without credits and gives Free and Pro the same export options, subject to browser safety limits. Read any warning about a changed size or frame rate, then watch the exported file from beginning to end before sharing it.

How to write an editing request that you can check

Name the material, the change and the exceptions. For example: 'Shorten the opening of the product demo, keep the explanation of how the lid closes, and leave the final offer unchanged.' This is an example brief, not a promise that every requested change will be correct. Compare the edited sequence with your original and adjust the timeline if needed.

Avoid combining unrelated changes in a vague instruction such as 'make this professional'. Ask for a cut, inspect it, then decide whether the audio or framing needs attention. Keep factual claims, names and offers under your own review. An attractive edit is not useful if it removes the explanation that makes the demonstration understandable.

Free editing, paid AI and the Pro plan are different things

Infinall AI's AI Editor is available on Free and Pro. Opening projects, importing media, manual editing, saving, exporting and the free browser tools do not use credits. AI Editor chat and picture generation use credits. A chat request stops after 100 credits; say continue to keep going, but do not treat that cap as a quoted price. Failed AI calls are not charged.

Free gives 1,000 credits every month with no card. Pro gives 3,000 credits a month and costs $10 for the first month, then $30 a month or $299 a year. In India, Pro is Rs 999 for the first month, then Rs 2,899 a month or Rs 33,999 a year. One credit is one US cent.

Generating video in Video mode is a Pro feature, but editing imported video in AI Editor is not. You do not need Pro simply to trim footage or export it. The timeline's Pro tools switch only shows or hides extra controls; it is not a subscription requirement.

When a manual or desktop approach is better

Use manual timeline controls when you know the exact cut you want or need to preserve a particular pause. They let you make a small adjustment without paying for another AI conversation. For an interview or movie, review the surrounding dialogue so a highlight does not change the speaker's meaning.

For a long movie or a delivery that requires ProRes, transparency or high bit depth, choose a desktop editor that explicitly supports your required output. Infinall AI's browser export does not provide those options. Exports over 120 seconds are reduced to 1920x1080, and frame rates above 30 fps are lowered to 30 for those longer videos. Other browser exports are capped at 3840x2160, while H.265, VP9 or AV1 also trigger the lower resolution cap.

Pro does not remove these browser limits. Check the required delivery format before doing the whole edit, rather than discovering an unsuitable export at the end.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit video with AI online without paying?

In Infinall AI, manual editing, saving, exporting and the free browser tools use no credits on either plan. Make subtitles is also free when Let AI pick the look is off. AI Editor chat and picture generation are paid in credits, so an online editor being free to open does not make every AI action free.

How do I change a video with AI without replacing the footage?

Start with the existing footage on a timeline and request a specific edit, such as shortening the opening while preserving the explanation. In Infinall AI, use AI Editor chat or the free tools for silence removal and reframing, then review the result. Generating a new video is a separate task from editing your original clips.

Can I edit a movie with AI in Infinall AI?

You can import footage and edit it on the timeline, but each file is limited to 500 MB and browser export has length-dependent safety limits. For a long movie, check those limits and your delivery requirements first. A desktop editor is the better approach if you need output options that the browser does not support.

Does the AI Editor work on a phone?

No. Infinall AI's AI Editor needs a laptop or desktop with a screen at least 1024 pixels wide. It does not open on phones, tablets or devices that only have a touch screen. A laptop with a touch screen and a trackpad or mouse is supported.
